Electrical Load Calculator – Calculate Total Power Demand

Calculate total electrical load by summing appliance power. Estimate home or workshop electricity demand easily

Calculator

Enter the name of the first appliance (e.g., Refrigerator, TV, etc.)

Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW). Check appliance label for power rating.

Enter the number of this appliance (default: 1)

Enter the name of the second appliance (optional)

Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW)

Enter the number of this appliance (default: 1)

Enter the name of the third appliance (optional)

Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW)

Enter the number of this appliance (default: 1)

Enter the name of the fourth appliance (optional)

Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW)

Enter the number of this appliance (default: 1)

Enter the name of the fifth appliance (optional)

Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW)

Enter the number of this appliance (default: 1)

Enter the demand factor (simultaneity factor) as a percentage (default: 100%, typical: 70-80% for residential). This accounts for not all appliances running at the same time.

How to Calculate

  • 1Enter the name of the first appliance (e.g., Refrigerator, TV, etc.)
  • 2Enter the power consumption in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW) - check appliance label
  • 3Enter the quantity (number of this appliance, default: 1)
  • 4Optionally add more appliances (up to 5 appliances)
  • 5Enter the demand factor as a percentage (default: 100%, typical: 70-80% for residential)
  • 6Click the Calculate button
  • 7View the total raw electrical load (sum of all appliances)
  • 8See the adjusted load (with demand factor applied)
  • 9Review the per-appliance breakdown
  • 10Review the formula, breakdown, and explanation for calculation details
  • 11Use the adjusted load with the Cable Size Calculator to determine cable sizing

Examples

Small Apartment

Inputs

factor: 80

Formula

Raw Total = 150 + 100 + 500 + 50 + 20 = 820 W = 0.82 kW

Result

0.82

Kitchen Appliances

Inputs

factor: 70

Formula

Raw Total = 150 + 7000 + 1000 + 1200 + 800 = 10.15 kW

Result

10.15

Workshop Tools

Inputs

factor: 60

Formula

Raw Total = 1500 + 750 + 1200 + 2000 + 800 = 6.25 kW

Result

6.25

With Demand Factor

Inputs
