CALCULATOR

Gravel Calculator – Estimate Gravel Volume and Weight

Calculate the amount of gravel needed for concrete, driveways, or base layers. Estimate gravel volume and weight easily

Calculator

Enter the total gravel volume needed in cubic meters or cubic feet

Select the intended use for the gravel (informational only, doesn't affect calculation)

Enter gravel density in kg/m³ (default: 1500 kg/m³ for dry gravel). Compacted or wet gravel may be 1600-1800 kg/m³

Select meters (m³) or feet (ft³) for volume measurements

Enable to add a waste margin (5-20%) to account for compaction, handling losses, and ensure sufficient material

How to Calculate

  • 1Enter the total gravel volume needed (use Concrete Volume Calculator if calculating for concrete mix)
  • 2Select the application type (concrete mix, road base, drainage, or general fill) - this is informational only
  • 3Optionally adjust gravel density (default: 1500 kg/m³ for dry gravel)
  • 4Select the unit system: Meters (m³) or Feet (ft³)
  • 5Optionally enable waste margin and set the percentage (typically 10%)
  • 6Click the Calculate button
  • 7View the calculated gravel weight in kilograms and volume in cubic meters
  • 8See the weight in tons for large volumes (if applicable)
  • 9Review the formula and explanation for calculation details
  • 10Use the waste margin to ensure you order enough gravel

Examples

Concrete Mix Aggregate

Inputs

volume: 2.057density: 1500

Formula

Gravel Weight = 2.057 × 1500 = 3085.5 kg

Result

2.057

Driveway Base Layer

Inputs

volume: 10density: 1500

Formula

Gravel Weight = 10 × 1500 = 15000 kg

Result

Drainage Layer

Inputs

volume: 5density: 1500

Formula

Gravel Weight = 5 × 1500 = 7500 kg

Result

With Waste Margin

Inputs

volume: 20density: 1500

Formula

Base Gravel Weight = 20 × 1500 = 30000 kg

Result
